Underpinning is a system that directly supports vertical loads from adjacent structures and supplies earth retention during excavation. Minimal vibration and sequenced construction methods are employed to provide vertical weight capacity while upholding ground support. Once new support systems have been installed, the load is transferred at either the base of the existing foundation, or applied directly to walls or columns higher in the structure through “column picks”.
